Illinois Society of Children of the American Revolution Chooses Best Buddies Ilinois for Their State Project
by SOMY THOTTATHIL
Scott Vogt, the State President of the Illinois Society of Children of the American Revolution has chosen Best Buddies Illinois as the focus for his 2009 State Project.
Vogt, a Peer Buddy in our Mundelein HS chapter, chose to focus his attention on Best Buddies Illinois after recently joining a Best Buddies program in his school, which immediately moved him to embrace Best Buddies in his new role as President of his chapter.
Any boy or girl under the age of twenty-two is eligible for membership in the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution who is lineally descended from a man or woman who, with unfailing loyalty, rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence as a soldier, sailor, civil officer, or recognized patriot in one of the several Colonies or States, or of the United States.
The Illinois Society of Children of the American Revolution will be selling a lapel pin across the state of Illinois and all the proceeds of the pin will be given to Best Buddies Illinois in support of the BUILD program.
BUILD - Buddies United in Leadership Development - is a workshop that supports our mission by training individuals with intellectual disabilities to become skilled public speakers and leaders in their communities.
Buddy Ambassadors developed proficiency in speech writing and were taught to speak on behalf of themselves, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and the Best Buddies mission with the help of Speech Coaches - volunteers from all over the Best Buddies network.
Eileen Murphy, Best Buddies Illinois State Director recently commented, “We're thrilled that Scott chose to work with us for his State Project. Partnering with the Illinois Society of Children of the American Revolution is something that we've never done before, and this will undoubtedly open up avenues for us to increase awareness for Best Buddies Illinois. We've very excited, and grateful.” |
