The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is known for its fast, flat course. Elite athletes and amateurs alike annually target the race for its potential to generate personal, national, and world records. In addition to its speed, the course offers a scenic tour of Chicago as it weaves through 29 diverse neighborhoods and dozens of local and historic landmarks. As a member of Team Best Buddies, you are guaranteed to see all that is great about the city of Chicago – all while helping people with intellectual disabilities.
People with intellectual disabilities are often excluded from society because of their differences. Best Buddies is the world’s biggest non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships. The organization is determined to end social isolation for people with intellectual disabilities by establishing meaningful, lasting relationships with their non-disabled peers. These friendships help to increase self-esteem, confidence and the abilities of all involved. Funds raised will fuel the ambitious expansion of Best Buddies programs throughout Illinois. Youth with intellectual disabilities will be prepared to participate fully in adult life as employees, social beings and citizens.
